About Jeff Camilleri

While music is enjoyable, it also requires discipline and commitment. The perfect teacher for you is one who strikes a balance and instills a lifelong love of music.

Early days and influences

Born on December 9, 1966 in Sydney, Australia, Jeff’s passion for music began at a young age when his mother bought him his first guitar, a Japanese Emperador Les Paul, and a copy of “The Beatles Complete.” With this, he and his friends formed a band at school and learned the Beatles’ tunes from cover to cover.

Although the guitar was not his true passion, Jeff’s love for music continued to grow. He aspired to play the drums, but was unable to convince his mother to buy him a drum set. However, his best friend had a drum set in his garage, so they formed a band with Jeff on the kit. Eventually, Jeff found a compromise and switched to bass, which would become his main instrument and continue to shape his musical journey.

    Passion and fulfillment

It was Paul McCartney and the “Beatles Complete” book that truly changed his life and without it, music may have passed him by.

After more than three decades of making music his profession, Jeff continues to enjoy the joy and fulfillment that music brings, not only to him but to those he has the privilege of performing for. He is passionate about sharing his love of music with others and continues to inspire future generations of musicians.

      Jeff’s Bass Collection

When my students ask me what bass should I buy, I tell them “Get a Yami. I have a wall full of them”.

      A fan of Yamaha

Jeff Camilleri’s Bass Collection is a showcase of the exceptional craftsmanship and versatility of Yamaha basses. As a brand with a legacy of producing world-class wind instruments, drums, and pianos, Yamaha should be the first choice for anyone seeking high-quality Japanese basses.

Since the 1980s, Jeff has been a dedicated fan of Yamaha basses, starting with his first bass, a BB300. Although his beloved BB300 was unfortunately stolen, he has since amassed an impressive collection of Yamaha basses, joining the ranks of legends such as Lee Sklar, John Patitucci, Abe Laborial, and Nathan East who are all known to own and play Yamaha basses.

In Jeff’s opinion, Yamaha basses offer the best value for money on the market. With straight necks, high-quality electronics, and durable hardware, these basses are built to last. Their sleek design and finishes make them not only beautiful to look at but also a joy to play with no dead spots across the fingerboard.

When his students ask him for advice on which bass to buy, Jeff’s answer is always the same: “Get a Yami. I have a wall full of them.” And he’s right, not only are Yamaha basses a great investment, but they are also amongst the best bargain vintage basses you’ll ever find. They may cost more than an entry-level bass, but they offer thousands of dollars of real-world value.
